I tried a recipe spray machine that required distilled water, vodka, and lavender essential oil. I mixed everything in my plastic measuring cup and left the cup on the desk. I think maybe one hour passed when I heard the crack measuring cup. At first I have heard, but has not hesitated to it. As the sounds continued, I looked at the cup and there were cracks everywhere. The mixture was fleeing remnants on the bottom and now .. Say I can not use this mug. How did this happen?
Essential oils and plastic do not go together. Some essential oils can melt the plastic (which is why the eucalyptus oil is great to remove the glue left by sticky labels) Probably vodka was not sufficient evidence to completely dissolve the essential oil. Although the mixture may have been good in the short term, if left then after a while the essential oil would have formed a layer on top and could eat into the plastic of the damage. How long this will happen will depend essential oil used and the amount. It is for this reason that I always recommend mixing and storage, oil blends Essential enamelware or glass ceramic.
