Herb Garden by Timothy Steele The lizard A copy of the small, thin spreads, the numbers adhesives to perform vertical push-ups on a sunny wall; Bees discuss spikes of lavender, and gold The swarm umbels of dill and little tufts of thyme. Tired of the lattice, one has found a resourceful Pink Cedar near climb and a braid in floral finery. Although the heat shocked sunflower seems half-dead The way he shepherd crook-like, hangs his head, herbs retain their low self-control: their scents and colors warm mix of good, careers between the bricks of the path, ants build volcanoes minute with sand. The last line uses the word "volcano", a word normally associated with the power of nature and the magnitude of a large scale to describe the work of tiny ants. The implication is that there is a huge strength and beauty to be seen in the small details of the natural world.
