Amber Refills

Hi,
I purchased a tested refill pg40 for my canon PIXMA ip1800. NOw when I go to print, it says black ink not recognized. I have disabled the ink level monitor, power cycled it, cleaned it, re-installed drivers. It flashes the amber light 5 times which according to Canon is a print head error. I can put the old one back in and it does not give an error. According to google searches this happens a lot. I would throw this thing through the window if it weren't so cold outside!!! Any suggestions? Please no obvious ones like buy an original cartridge because if they didn't work not everyone would be selling refilled ones.

Thanks for the replies. It is still flshing and it is a PIXMA IP1800 with a chip style cartridge.
If the orange warning light is on then it may need to be reset. I have two Canon printers one an MP610 and the other MP220. One is 5 inks and the other two cartridge system. When I refill the MP610 I now have a chip re-setter machine for that but before I had it I would have to disable the ink level indicator but still press the reset button on it as well. On the MP 220 I always had to reset it as it was none chipped cartridge. As you do not say what model then please bare in mind that I am guessing from my experience with my models but the resetting usually works.
Somewhere on your printers control panel you should have a little button - usually its by the two bigger photocopying buttons and it has a red triangle inside a red circle. Hold this button down - hard - for quite a few seconds. Don't leave go if it does not work instantly as it takes more than a light press to reset it - trust me! Hold this little button down until the orange light goes off and you hear machine noises. If the light does not go off then I have no further ideas as that usually fixes both of mine's errors messages after refilled cartridges are installed - even the ones where I would disable the ink level monitor pre chip re-setter.

In responce to you addittion information. I should apologise - your original post did say what model printer you had. My brain is having one of those days.
I would go with the suggestion that the cartridge was dodgy and if there is still ink in it take it back to where you got it and explain and see if they will replace it. Even though you say it was a tested one it could still have suffered damage after it was tested. I will try to see what I can find out about the printer and its cartridges for some clues. If I find anything I will repost.
