my boyfriend is half Vietnamese and they have something like this at his house. its much bigger than that and it has glowing red lights and pictures of his deceased grandfather and other people. they also have bowls with fruits, little tea sets and a bottle of wine. my boyfriend also sometimes lights incense in front of his grandpa's picture and bows 3 times. there is also a statue of Buddha and some other one that looks familiar but i dont know his or her name.
I ask my boyfriend but he says "i dont know..i just do it because im used to it..."
I want to know everything about this. i think its really interesting

Nah, we don't count it as a region in our country.. it's just the way Vietnamese people used to do to express their love and their respect to their ancestor. They set a buddha there is just because of they believe in buddha.. Almost every household here in Vietnam has an altar in their house. But not for some families in the Northern Vietnam. They go to church like the other country, they don't have an altar in their house.
A simple example, people in U.S still go to church but they don't really are Christian or Catholic. It's just the way of them to express their love or anything they believe
