water passing through the sieve....a sieve is like a strainer...which is what they are working on doing with straining the oil out of the water...
The markets to fall....finanical failures, which has hit all of the coast.
Gotta love prophecy. So unbelievably vague that people can interpret it to mean anything they like. I may start believing them when they are not exclusively assigned to events in hindsight. However even with that, no I can't see any comparison:

Ok, maybe (is the oil rig still burning? Don't think it is but I'm not sure so I'll leave that one) but the context is "When the lamp burning with inextinguishable fire will be found in the temple of the Vestals". Which is a direct reference to the sacred fire of Vesta which was never allowed to go out. You need to take it out of context to come up with the interpretation you have.
The rest is largely gibberish although the "To peish (sp?) in water Nîmes" carries nothing more than an implication of the flooding of the city of Nîmes.
So no, there is absolutely no parallel between the two. The most obvious difficulty being that the prophecy is centred on a different continent.
