I have tried the pricey ones from Yankee Candle with essential oils even added to them, the generic Wal-Mart ones, the ones from Bath & Body Works, AND I have tried the Betty Crocker ones.
Of all these, even the cheapo walmart ones, the Betty Crocker ones had NO SCENT what-so-ever. It smelled like burning wax when lit - but smelled great when NOT lit...what gives?
The candles themselves were very strong, just NOT when lit.
If you know of some or have used some affordable candles that actually emit a strong scent please let me know. In particular my favorite scents are sugar cookies, gingerbread, vanilla, apple cinnamon, and lavender.

So far these are ghreat suggestions although I read some reviews on the Glade 2-in-1 candles and theyweren't so great? I researched and found Yankee Candle to be the "strongest" but my Yankee Candles don't hardly smell at all..... hmmmm!
I know exactly what you mean! Have you tried making them yourself? If you use wax beads from a craft store, they are super easy. And you can customize the scent and the strength by choosing the fragrance oil yourself. I made a bunch of these for Christmas gifts using Chistmas-y ceramic jars from a thrift store and scenting them in gingerbread.
