Burning scented candles can be bad for you, but what health risks are there to melting scented wax 'tarts'?

I am a long time Yankee Candle lover, but I've recently made the switch to an electric wax melter for Yankee tarts. I know that scented candles can polute the air because of the smoke and soot they produce, so I have stopped buying them. Are wax 'tarts' or melts any better for the air? I live in an apartment building with a shared bathroom vent, and the smell of cigarette smoke seeps in from my neighbor's apartment, so I need something to freshen the air. Plug-in air fresheners don't seem to do the trick. Does anyone know if melting the wax is just as bad as burning it?

Burning wax in general can be harmful to both your health and the environment.

Fumes from the wax, if inhaled, are carried from the alveoli into your bloodstream, which carries the toxins from the fumes all over your body, making you a prime candidate for kidney disease, inflamed triglycerides, lung cancer (something you should already be afraid of due to your neighbor's cigarette smoke), increased estrogen levels (causing latent homosexuality in males, and in some extreme cases, inverted erections).

While this is the case with most wax melting, some companies use alternative chemical compounds when making and scenting their wax. I suggest switching to Red Sox candles, they are far better.
